Shinbo seems like just a goofy guy; however he can get really passionate about things important to him. After certain point in the series Hideki suspects something else about Shinbo. It all started when Hideki was at his house one night and Shimizu sensei comes over and asks Hideki if she can spend the night at his house. Hideki lets her stay and the next day at cram school Shinbo seems very tired. When Hideki tells Shinbo what happened he gets really angry and when cram school is over he stays behind. A few days later he sees Shinbo and Shimizu in an ally and they are…kissing?? The next time Hideki hears from Shinbo he tells Hideki that he has run off with Shimizu and they are at a hot springs in the mountains. Hideki asks why and Shinbo tells him the story of how Shimizu’s husband ignored her and Shinbo ended up falling in love with her. The night she spent at Hideki’s was the night she was supposed to move in with Shinbo. They don’t end up returning until Shimizu agrees to remarry to Shinbo. Nothing really changes when they get back except that they move in together, but they make a really sweet and loving couple.
Shinbo is on pretty good terms with Hideki and sticks with him through all the stupid things he does. The only time he really got mad was when Chii broke Sumomo. Hideki really cares about this friendship and got really angry at Shinbo for not telling him about his relationship with Shimizu sooner and made him promise to tell him important stuff like that sooner in the future. Shinbo’s relationship with Sumomo is cute and funny because he makes her do all kinds of silly things as part of her program but he takes good care of her.
Anime:In the anime Shinbo lives in the same apartment as Hideki.
