Story:

In Angelic Layer, Kaede was one of the top Angel deuses in the whole Angelic Layer world, and in Chobits she is Minoru's older sister. It makes sence though, because she was involved with the human-like dolls-angels, while Minoru is involved with the human-like robots-persocons, both created by Mihara Ichirou. In Angelic Layer it is said that she didn't have any siblings, but this is explained in Chobits by saying that their parents divorced when they were little (and I guess remarried) and they got new last names.

Kaede is never physically IN Chobits, just through Minoru's memories. She is portrayed as a kind and loving sister, and one of the nicest souls on Earth. Minoru takes her death hard (she dies of a sudden illness, but it is never elaborated on) and created Yuzuki in her likeness. It is only through Hideki's intervention that Minoru finally start's to get over his sister's death, and to appreciate Yuzuki for who she is, which is, of course what his wonderful older sister would have wanted.
