Hideki goes bursting into the café where Minoru and Yuzuki are waiting. They state that the sender of the images or someone that read about her on the BBS that Minoru posted on might have taken Chii. Hideki goes off to continue looking and he runs into Ueda. Yumi sees them and starts following them. They go up and down the street asking the owners of stores. One woman asks about Ueda’s persocon then remembers that he doesn’t have one anymore. They are sitting having drinks from a vendor when Shinbo calls saying that they are coming back because Shimizu said yes to marriage. Hideki asks if persocons can get hurt or feel pain and Shinbo says that everything can be programmed. Ueda asks to talk to Hideki. Hideki says how it’s hard to think of Chii as just a persocon. Ueda tells him that he had a persocon, and that he married it. It started when he went to go get a persocon to help at Chirouru. Instead of a newer model he chose one that was old and on sale. He said that it was love at first sight when he turned her on and she asked him “Who are you?” Everything was going good and he started to seriously like her. He says (as Yumi is watching) that everyone made fun of them when they got married but he was happy. Soon after she began to forget things. It got worse and worse so he took her to the electronics store. They told him she would need a new hard disk and her data could not be transferred because she was so old. He didn’t want to, so he took her back home and restarted her. (“Who are you?”) After that she couldn’t remember things from a few seconds ago. (It’s very sad, they keep showing her asking Ueda “who are you?”). One night they were walking home in the rain. Ueda was zoning, thinking about her and walked in front of a truck. His persocon sees the truck and pushes him out of the way, getting hit herself. Right before she stops working she looks at him and in that sluggish voice computers make when they are going slow says, “Hello”. Ueda says that she shouldn’t have been able to remember that a car was dangerous anymore yet he thinks she tried to save him. Hideki thinks it isn’t strange and that she did try to save him. Ueda says that her body was completely destroyed but he didn’t want a new one, because in his heart she had died. He points out that even though persocons can be reprogrammed not to remember pain that he will the people will remember. This gives Hideki new strength to go find Chii. Then Yumi runs out from behind a tree and Hideki goes after her thinking she’s Chii’s abductor. He catches her arm and recognizes her and sees that she is crying. Ueda runs up and recognizes her also. She runs away and Ueda says that he makes Yumi sad. Minoru then gets a strange file from the sender of the images. This episode was so sad!! And they were playing an instrumental version of Ningyo Hime during Ueda’s story. I almost cried!! I love the Chobits anime.
