Hideki goes to Chirouru to pick up Chii and she shows him a cake she made. Later on Hideki is talking with his boss about all the things persocons can do. Yumi9 then says that she doesn’t have a persocon anymore because when people are with persocons they don’t want to be with other people. The next morning Hideki freaks out because Chii8’s shirt keeps falling down and then he’s out of energy. He tells Chii as he is leaving that he can’t pick her up from work that day. Chii and Hideki have a hug because Chii was worried (cute scene!) but Sumomo interrupts saying that Hideki has to leave. As Hideki is traveling to work he thinks of all the people (Yumi, Shimizu & Shinbo) who have told him about people liking persocons more than people and tries to figure out what his relationship with Chii is. Chii stops by the bookstore to check out the latest volume of “The Empty City” on her way to work. Suddenly someone comes up behind her and grabs her. When Hideki gets home there’s no one there. He gets a call from Ueda saying that Chii never came to work. Hideki searches all over town but to no avail. He goes by the bookstore and sees the book. The owner comes over and says that Chii was there earlier and he came over to talk to her but all he found was one of the clips she wears in her hair, which he gives to Hideki. Chii wakes up in some fancy, unfamiliar room. A mobile persocon with purple hair comes over and tells her she’s been abducted. After Chii calls it “it” she says her name is Kotoko. Chii then starts talking about Hideki and a man who says his name is Yoshiyuki walks in. He says that he found out about Chii and knew he wanted her. When he saw her at the bookstore he couldn’t let the chance go. He wants to find out if she is a Chobit. He then makes fun her name. When he goes away Chii says she likes her name because Hideki gave it to her. We see Hibiya in her lab, looking at a map like thing, saying sorry because she cannot do anything due to a promise she made. Yuzuki is then apologizing for not being more like Minoru’s sister and Minoru tries to tell her that she doesn’t need to be more like his sister. He gets a call from Hideki and they head out.
