Dita is the funky, dark, female (in the anime I believe it's confirmed she's female, and in the manga sense I'll just refer to her as female even though I don't think she really has a gender) persocon that first appears with Zima. They spend most of the series watching and following Chii, but their intent is not known until the last few chapters.
The company that first sold persocons created Zima and Dita. (Now on referred to as the client organization.) The client organization received all their persocons from the developers, who first made persocons. The client organization wanted to be able to keep track of all persocons made so they made Zima. And to protect Zima, who holds information on all persocons ever created, they made Dita. She acts as a firewall for Zima, protecting him from hackers. (And she does a good job of it).
Dita and Zima’s mission was to shut Chii down, because she contained a program that could affect all persocons, but they don’t know what it is. Dita takes her job very seriously and will automatically follow any orders given to her, making her a very ruthless tool. Any information Zima gets on Chii he withholds from Dita because he wants to know what is going to happen to Chii. If Dita had known where Chii was she would have immediately gone there and shut Chii down. So while Zima cares deeply for Dita, he keeps her in the dark. In fact, Dita does not figure out anything about Chii until Zima starts to become overloaded and Dita connects to him, against his wishes, to help him.
